1. Managing Turfgrass Root Systems in the North 0.35 EP's (GCSAA) N.E. 1 Credit 3b, 10, Pvt, CL

This seminar will specifically address cool-season turfgrass root growth and how roots can be managed to keep plants more healthy to aid in developing IMP management programs and best management practice programs. Discussion topics will include the importance of proper management practices that promote deep and healthy root systems, watering techniques, fertilization, pest threats, all which will impact plant health.
2. Computer Training-PowerPoint 2003 0.35EP's (GCSAA)
Time: 8am-12noon Instructors: New Horizons Computer Learning Center
PowerPoint 2003 is used in all realms of business and recreation to help in the communication and presentations of ideas. If you know some PowerPoint then this seminar will increase your ability to prepare, construct, enhance and present a PowerPoint presentation.
3. Insects of New England 0.35 EP's (GCSAA) N.E. 4 Credits 3b, 10, Pvt, CL
Time: 8 am-12Noon Instructors: Dr. Pat Vittum (UMass), Dr. Steve Alm (URI), Dr. Stanley Swier (UNH), Dr. Albrecht Koppenhöfer (Penn State)
This seminar will address those turfgrass insects in New England that affect Turfgrass Management strategies. Attendees will increase their knowledge of best management practices to combat infestations that can lower turf quality. Each professor will expertly address insect species and subjects to help attendees with the ability to manage populations using IPM practices and BMP's that will be more beneficial to the environment. Pesticide rates, efficiency, application timing and proper material selection will be discussed.
4. USGA Intermediate Rules of Golf 0.70 EP's (GCSAA)
Time: 8am-5pm Instructor: Mr. Jeff Hall, USGA
Gain a better understanding of how the golf course and its management affect the proper playing of the game of golf. Learn the rules that golf course superintendents need to be most familiar with and the proper marking of the course. A current copy of, "Decisions on the Rules of Golf" will be included with registration of this seminar
5. Financial Skills for the Superintendent 0.35 EP's (GCSAA)
Time: 1pm-5pm Instructor: Mr. Cleve Cleveland, CGCS
This seminar will introduce financial issues and situations pertaining to both the general golf business and to the specific role of the superintendent. Subjects will include golf course ownership, operation and development; accounting and tax transactions relative to the golf operation; equipment leasing and acquisition; fringe benefits; and retirement planning.
6. Computer Training-MS Excel 2003 0.35 EP's (GCSAA)
Time: 1pm-5:00 Instructor: New Horizons Computer Learning Center
Excel 2003 will be taught during this seminar to give all attendees the opportunity to learn more about MS Excel for spreadsheets. Setting up a spreadsheet and how to use the many Excel features will be included.
7. Golf Course Energy Conservation and Pollution Prevention Opportunities .35 EP's(GCSAA)

& Ms. Caitlin Rood, Tetra Tech EM, Inc., Denver, CO
An interactive seminar will introduce the concepts of pollution prevention; understanding and conducting energy assessments; understanding and implementing "Green Purchasing" practices as they relate to assessing products and identifying resources for alternative products. Participants will learn innovative source reduction with supporting reuse and recycling concepts, with regard to such topics as batteries, used oil and used antifreeze.
Note: Re-certification credits for pesticide applicators are available for all New England States. New York and New Jersey credits have been applied for and will be available for seminars 1 & 3.
