Integrated Pest Management of Turfgrass in Massachusetts
Mary Owen, University of Massachusetts Extension, 1 year, $7,200.
Objective(s): 1. Develop economically and operationally feasible, environmentally
sensible professional turf 1PM protocols for golf courses. 2. To produce a management
tool, IPM Protocols for Golf Courses, which can be used to document and verify the use
of IPM and to develop an IPM Certification Program. 3. To help turf managers increase
pest management efficiency and when possible to reduce the reliance on pesticides. 4.
Development of training and educational information to be distributed to those involved
with the program including legislators and municipal regulators.
Results: The project was initiated in 1998 and is in it’s third and final year. NERTF
is partially funding its final year during the Summer of 2000.
2000 Results: The 3 year project was completed in spring of 2001. "Protocols For An IPM System On Golf Courses" and "Structure Of A Golf Course IPM Certification Program" booklets were produced and are available from the UMass Extension offices. Protocols For An IPM System On Golf Courses presents a set of standards which can be used to develop and implement an economically viable and environmentally sound IPM system on golf courses.
